Xtabi restaurant and bar

So many places to stay and enjoy in years of travel to come. My list gets longer and longer, and no many how many times I go, there is more that I want to experience. Xtabi is on the list.

Xtabi

One morning I took a stroll to Xtabi Resort to check it out. I have never been on the grounds and want to stay there sometime, so I went in and asked if I could look around. I wandered around gardenside and was amused by the set of rusty weights in the middle of the garden next to the pool. For any of you bench pressing nuts, full gym--work out with the weights and take a swim. I also got to see cottage number 1 seaside--nice nice--dreaming of being there sometime. It has it's own sea entry area and you can see that deep turquoise sea right from your doorstep. It is a very nice property with a great vibe, everyone I spoke to was very welcoming. The food there was incredible and the bar and restaurant sit in a prime sea view area on the cliffs. To top it off, the prices are reasonable. But like everywhere else, it was so quiet. The only folks I saw worked there.

Naked man dancing on boat

An anecdotal snorkeling tale: I was out swimming towards the Blue Cave Castle near the buoys with my mask and snorkel, focused on sea life below me. I heard a boat approaching and raised my head, treading water to see where it was. I lifted my mask right as the boat passed right in front of me with music blaring and a naked man front and center dancing a wild dance with his dick waving in the air. I started laughing so hard I gagged on salt water. It was so incongruous after the silent peace of the depths of the sea.

The naked man with swinging schlong on a passing boat was a shocker. I was all at peace with the sea and nature and all, it was during that quiet, calm pre-sunset time and I was in a total meditative zone. Then there he was with this loud music dancing on deck waving at people at Samsara. What a reality check. It must have been a boat from the Hedonism II resort.

Morning walk up the West End Road (AKA One Love Drive)

Come morning time I would walk up the West End road ( which has been renamed One Love Drive) seeking coffee, food or just the sublime pleasure of drinking in the sights and breathing sweet JA air.

La Kaiser's--the mystery resort

One morning I checked out La Kaiser's resort--the place mystifies me. It is such a prime property and it is always deserted. The guy who is in the little guard house and sells beaded necklaces and bracelets (the ones I showed earlier in this blog under "Loot" were from him) said it is open for business--but it was just empty. Other Jamaicans told me it is owned by a foreigner "bad man" involved in some kind of drug racket who doesn't need the place to do any business. They also told me about great shows that used to take place there. The pool was green with algae but for the most part the place looked good. There is a modern office too.

Ecstatic Feet

I wouldn't want my feet to be anywhere else. Jamaica is true foot liberation, barefoot on the beach, in the sea, and flipflops every where else. That's the kind of freedom I crave, year long.

The best Jamaican Breakfast, EVER!

Hands down my best breakfast in Negril, the Jamaican breakfast at Just Natural. Ackee and saltfish, calaloo, dumplings and homemade guava chutney, fresh passion fruit and guava. And a primo cup of Blue Mountain coffe. Just Natural is a nice stroll from Samsara. I was the only one there, In fact every place I ate in Negril this trip (Sips and Bites, Colleta's, Fatty's, Just Natural, Kuyaba, Jenny's, Choices, MiYard, Xtabi, Juicy J and in Mobay the Pork Pit and Toby's)--I was always the only diner in the place. Things are slow slow. In part because September is low season, and in part because the recession has cut back on people's travel budgets. I bought some of the hot sauce from Just Natural-- it is already half gone. I love me some JA hot sauce.
